Salary Earning Placements

Being that Anglo Thai Cultural Exchange, Ltd. is a not for profit organization (as well as a not for salary), we will do the best we can in finding you a suitable placement in Thailand without any extra added costs.  We do urge you to do your best and can assist you in doing both volunteering AND a salary based position.

There is a constant need of teachers in major cities such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai in which potential teachers have the ability to earn a salary.  Placements elsewhere are less frequent and harder to find (due to cost restraints of the schools to employ a native English teacher).  Hence, the reason as to why we ask you to volunteer.

There are, however, requirements that schools need from teachers.  These vary to a large extent from one school to another.  Here is a list of what a typical school looks for in a teacher, in terms of qualifications:

  • TESOL/TEFL Qualified

  • Native English Speaker

  • University degree

  • Previous teaching experience (some ask for Asia specifically)

Not all schools look for everyone of the above qualifications.  As mentioned before, this varies from school to school.  If you would like to undergo a TESOL/TEFL course, please do visit our link above.  The course which we recommend to all is one which is highly regarded in Thailand (if not the most) and placements are easily done with this certification.

There are some benefits of teaching English in Thailand earning a salary - besides the fact that you will be earning money.  Here is a simple list as to why:

  • Visas: Once accepted a placement, schools will assist you in getting the correct visa for your stay.

  • Work Permits: Similar to visas, schools will assist you in getting the correct paperwork done.

  • Insurance (Medical): Most schools will provide this type of insurance during your stay as a teacher.

  • Accommodation: This varies between schools - whether or not they provide it.  Most schools will assist you in finding a place to live during your teaching position and may even give you a stipend to do so.

  • End of Contract Bonus: Some schools do give bonuses, but not all.

  • Extra Salary: Most schools give you the opportunity to work overtime (i.e. tutoring and having private classes).  This is a simple but yet easy way to increase your salary immensely.

  • MAKING MONEY! (Look at the Money Matters Section Below)

Money Matters:

We took the liberty to do some maths calculations as to how you can not only travel but leave Thailand with a fair amount of money in your pocket.

We figure the approximate costs of each of the following:

Per Month Costs (in baht)

One Time Costs (in baht)

Accommodation: 10,000 baht Plane Flight from the UK to Thailand: 35,000 baht
Food Costs: 6,000 baht TESOL/TEFL Course: 47,150 baht
Transportation Costs to School: 3,000 baht

Salary is figured in as 40,000 baht a month, plus 8,000 baht of overtime

Month #1: -101,150 Month #7: +72,850
Month #2: -72,150 Month #8: +101,850
Month #3: -43,150 Month #9: +130,850
Month #4: -14,150 Month #10: +159,850
Month #5: +14,850 Month #11: +188,850
Month #6: +43,850 Month #12: +217,850

Therefore, after 6 months, you walk away with the equivalent of about £675 and after 12 months, £3,350.  This, of course, does not take into account any other purchases such as gifts, souvenirs, alcohol, among other things.
