Why Volunteer?

What is in it for me as a volunteer?
Independence: The perfect opportunity to travel and learn valuable life experiences which you will keep with you for a long time to come. For many, this will be the first long term situation in which you will have the ability to travel alone and be semi-independent. Not only this, but you will be living in a country where English is not the native speaking language. Our view is that if you can cope living in northeastern Thailand, you will be ready for anything!
Experience: What more is needed to say? You will be in a totally different culture. Everything from the food to lifestyle to climate will be drastically different. We are sure that you will walk away with a new view on life and other cultures as a whole. This will be a major shift of understanding new cultures and a hands-on approach to learning.
Making a Difference: It may seem as if you are the recipient of a good doing. But in essence, you are changing and altering the lives of those who you are teaching English to. You are giving the opportunity to those who would otherwise not have the ability to learn this much needed language. You will see first hand the sheer need of English in countries such as Thailand and will appreciate your personal knowledge of the language.
CV/Résumé: Whether you volunteer for this homestay prior to, during or after your university education, this adds an extra piece to your CV. In today's competitive world, where education and extra curricular activities are just not enough, this may play a vital role in putting you above others when applying for jobs in the future. Anglo Thai Cultural Exchange will do all that is possible to assist you in providing references, letters and any other information needed.

What is in it for the Thai students?
Learning English: Not as obvious as it may seem. English is by far one of the key languages throughout the world today. It is the basis around the internet, computers, travel, transportation, among many other aspects of life. In Thailand specifically, fluency in English is vital in finding and getting jobs. Tourism and business within Thailand is increasing dramatically every year and the need of English is growing.
Opportunity for students: Like mentioned before, English can open up multiple opportunities for the students when they graduate. What is more is that you are providing them the opportunity to learn this vital language in which they would not otherwise have easy access to. Learning from a native speaker is essential to help their refinement in areas such as speech.
Cultural Exchange: Most of the students that you will be teaching will have had little to no contact with foreigners. This will be an experience unlike any other for these students. This will give them an opportunity to exchange views with you and learn about schools and living in the "West".
Promote Learning: Being taught by a native English speaker will not only enhance their skills but also promote their learning. Being of a similar age to the students you will be teaching there will be more in common and it is our belief that this will greatly benefit the students.

Why Anglo Thai Cultural Exchange?
Our Fee's: Compared to other organizations like ourselves, our fees are a far cry from that of other similar companies.  We do not profit in any area of our fees.  The £40 charge which goes to our company is used solely for our overhead costs within Thailand and visiting universities within the UK.  Further more, 80% of the fee that we charge you actually goes straight to the school and teacher you will be staying with.  Therefore, there is no money out of pocket spent for you being in Thailand for those you will be staying with.
Our Goals: They may be similar to that of other companies but our organization is on a lot more of a personal level.  The founder, Andrew Titley, has been visiting the general area where homestays will be conducted and has even founded a book drive here since 2004.  Therefore, all schools have been hand selected to ensure that your hard work goes noticed.  Rather than dealing with a random company representative, you will actually meet/talk to Andrew Titley prior to going to Thailand and during your stay in Thailand.  This means that you will have the ability to talk to, not only a certified TESOL teachers, but someone relative to your age.
Location, Location, Location: Unlike many other organizations, Anglo Thai Cultural Exchange will place you in a rural school where your teaching is most needed.  Provinces, such as Sisaket, is statistically the poorest region in Thailand.  This area of Thailand, known locally as "Issan", needs the help of motivated, native English teachers to help their children learn.  This is quite the difference from places such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai where many organizations place their volunteers.

You are NEEDED: Unlike some other organizations, we do not go out and find schools to host volunteers.  Schools come to US looking for volunteers to teach.  What this means is that the schools you are being sent to actually need you there!
Services Provided: We not only provide you an opportunity to volunteer teach English in Thailand but can arrange a variety of other things for you as well.  We are constantly in contact with visa specialists, tour operators, flight operators and anything else that you may need prior to or during your stay in Thailand.  All this can be done at cost to the volunteer without any mark-ups in pricing.
